Located just across the road from Dáil Éireann, the Irish Parliament Buildings, Buswells Hotel, along with the Horseshoe Bar in The Shelbourne, is renowned as a haunt of politicians, their advisers and lobbyists.
Always an interesting place to hang around, not so long ago I visited the mens' room there only to find myself in the rather intimate company of Gerry Adams and John Hume. That's not an experience you have every day.
In the past, and through its long history, Buswells was the kind of hotel frequented by commercial travellers and families visiting Dublin for a day or two. Completely renovated in 1997 to the standard of a four star luxury hotel, it has lost none of its familial intimacy, while now providing state of the art services to the travelling businessman, including meeting and conference facilities.
A superb location then for the business traveller or for families or tourists for whom Buswells is within budget. The hotel is within easy walking reach of the main shopping area of Grafton Street, just a few minutes from Trinity College and close to the business district of Dublin 2.
Single, double and twin rooms are available. All are en-suite with remote control televisions, direct dial telephones, tea and coffee making facilities and trouser presses.
Buswells has been completely refurbished for comfort and elegance, but has lost none of the atmosphere that always made it special - a perfect hideaway for an intimate drink in the heart of Dublin. Small screen TVs allow you to keep up with the sports without intruding on the non-sports fan.
Trumanns Restaurant is an AA Rosette winner and serves lunch during the week and dinner every evening, offering traditional and international cuisine. The restaurant is closed on Sundays.
For a less formal setting you can eat in the relaxed environment of Buswells Brasserie, open every evening.
