The Fitzwilliam Hotel, Dublin
starstarstarstarstar

One of the top hotels in Dublin, The Fitzwilliam also occupies a top location. Nestled as it is alongside the Stephens Green Shopping Centre at the top of Grafton Street and facing St Stephens Green across the terminus of the new Luas Green Line, The Fitzwilliam puts you right at the heart of Dublin's prime shopping area or a twenty minute ride away from the foothills of the Dublin mountains.

A contemporary luxury hotel, the understated elegance of The Fitzwilliam is the work of Sir Terence Conran. From the sumptuous penthouse with its grand piano to the specially commissioned furniture used throughout, meticulous care has been taken to provide the 5-star traveller with a unique experience of contemporary style and luxury.

Accommodation

The new penthouse in the Fitzwilliam opened in late 2004 and is one of the best in the city, comprising a 160 sq. m. two-bedroomed suite overlooking the hotel's magnificent roof-garden, complete with the afore-mentioned piano and inbuilt remote-control home entertainment system.

Those in the cheaper seats, as John Lennon would have called them, can choose from executive, superior and deluxe rooms. All have 2 phones, free broadband, minibar, trouser press, safe and hairdryer as well as pay TV, a CD player and tea and coffee making facilities. The superior and deluxe rooms are at the front of the hotel overlooking the Green and have air-conditioning and, in some cases, balconies.
(Note: Air-conditioning is not usually required in Dublin's climate and is rarely found in private houses. The advantage to having it when fronting onto a busy city-centre street is more one of sound conditioning than atmospheric control.)

Facilities

As if being beside many of Dublin's best shops, restaurants and services were not enough, The Fitzwilliam chooses to offer many of these facilities itself, as befits a top-class luxury hotel. Pride of place goes to Thornton's, a Michelin 2-star restaurant which has successfully filled the gap left by a rather publicly acrimonious split with a previous master-chef. Whetever you do, don't ask to see the paintings!

Citron is a contemporary cafe bar popular with business people and shoppers with good food in the modern-chic idiom and surroundings which are both stylish and calm. There's also a less-known traditional-style bar, The Inn on the Green which specialises in cocktails.

In addition, Freespirit Health and Beauty clinic privides a hair salon, facial and nail treatments, massage and a fully equipped gym.

Meetings

For businesses and business travellers, the hotel has three flexible conference rooms which can be adapted to accommodate from 16 to 100 people. With their state of the art technology, combined with the top class catering available at The Fitzwilliam, you can be guaranteed a fuss-free event.
